As part of the District Wide Improvement Project and grade reconfiguration, the new Hanaford Elementary School is a 4-Track, grades 1-5 Elementary School. This new construction school will be constructed on the back portion of the site, while the school remains operational. The project was originally assumed to be a renovation/addition, however after many in-depth studies, it was determined that to provide equity among all elementary schools, the amount of work to renovate the existing school would be cost prohibitive. The building will be a 2-story brick façade with great attention paid to the amount of natural light in the building. After passing through the secure vestibule, the main entrance is a double height space warmed with natural wood, and adjacent to an open cafeteria for a flexible use of space with tons of visibility
